Do you know about silica dioxide?

Nature and Introduction:

Silica dioxide CAS number: 7631-86-9 Chemical formula: SiO2. The most common form of silica dioxide in nature is quartz, which is the main component of sand. Silica dioxide is the most complex and abundant material, both polymineral and synthetically produced.

Physical properties: It has high hardness, high temperature resistance, shock resistance, insulation, and can pass through visible light, as well as red and ultraviolet rays.

Chemical properties: inactive, not easy to react with water and most acids. Generally, it can only react with basic oxides to form salts.

The main application of silica dioxide:

Industrial production: Silica dioxide and other compounds are melted at high temperature and glass can be made by rapid cooling. It is also a major component of sand and quartz. In applications such as semiconductors and solar panels, it is currently the main raw material. Silica dioxide can be mixed with graphite or active metal to produce simple silicon through oxidation-reduction reaction.

Food industry: It is used as an anticaking agent and belongs to the list of food additives. Colloidal, precipitated or fumed silica dioxide are common additives in food production. It is primarily used as a flow or anti-caking agent in powdered foods such as spices and non-dairy coffee creamers, or as a powder to make tablets. It can absorb water in hygroscopic applications. Colloidal silica dioxide is used as a clarifying agent for wine, beer and fruit juice.

Other Industries: Silica dioxide is used in the cosmetics production industry due to its light diffusing properties and natural absorption.
